MIDTOWN was first developed as a planned suburb in the 1800s. When Piedmont Park was opened, the area began to grow very quickly. Today, Piedmont Park is the heart of Midtown and often hosts important community events. As a result of Piedmont Park’s importance to the community it underwent a huge expansion in 2011.
Today Midtown is a place the city's thriving arts scene fondly calls home. It's called the "Heart of the Arts" for a reason and artists and art lovers alike are drawn to this place. The Woodruff Arts Center on Peachtree Street is a busy hub for both visual and performing arts. Here you'll find the widely-acclaimed High Museum of Art with some of the best collections of classic and contemporary art not only in Georgia, but in the South. While at the Center you can also watch and hear the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra play at the Atlanta Symphony Hall, or catch a performance on stage at the Tony Award-winning Alliance Theatre. Just across the street is the MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta), which houses a fine collection of all things design, from the worlds of architectural, industrial, fashion, and graphic design. Further down Peachtree, close to Midtown's southern border stands the famed Fox Theatre, with its long history of Broadway shows and landmark concerts.
Whether you consider yourself a foodie, an artesian, or a lover of all things out of doors, Midtown has something to you offer you and your family.
